Uncertainty isn’t a reason to wait. It's the reason to build the foundations every future needs
AI’s potential impact on work has become one of the most prominent questions in the entire debate about the technology. Much of the conversation is genuine uncertainty: how, and in what ways, will AI affect the labor market? Should we do anything about it? And if so, what can we do?
We thought carefully about whether to weigh in. There’s a lot of great thinking already out in the field, and we don’t have a definitive answer to the questions above. But no one does, at least not yet. What we do know is that the institutions capable of responding take years to build. That’s what makes the case for acting now: not betting on any one future, but understanding what holds across all of them.
Our new report, The Future of Work: A Framework for Action Under Uncertainty, maps the AI-and-work governance landscape and points to some of those responses. Here, we give you the overview: what exists today, and where we go from here.
